Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music has not only brought an interest to the genre, but as well to Latin music as a whole. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish and in 2016 there were four. However, during the heights of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. In 2020, it was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Then, various artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019 In 2020, a few Reggaeton artists were complaining about the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. But a newer generation like Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the development. The group incorporated elements from different genres and electronic music.
